On September 15, 2011, the United States Department of Education recognized 255 public schools and 49 private schools nationally as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.
“The National Blue Ribbon Schools are committed to accelerating and preparing students for success in college and careers”, said Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education.
The National Blue Ribbon honors private and public elementary schools based on certain criteria -schools whose students are high performing or have narrowed the achievement gap. These are schools ranked among each state’s highest performing schools as measured by their performance on state assessments or,in the case of private/non-public schools, that score at the highest performance level on nationally performed tests.
Nativity of Our Lord School was proud to have been named as one of only 49 private schools nationwide to receive this honor in 2011. An extensive application was part of the process to receive this award and among the minimum requirements for the application are inclusion of a World Language in the curriculum and performance in the top 10% of schools nationwide in standardized tests. Additionally, Nativity has a fully functioning Science Laboratory to accompany its Science Curriculum.
Nativity of Our Lord School will not rest on its laurels in receipt of this award but will continue to strive for academic excellence in preparing its students for learning in the 21st century.
